The Town of Stengard
Stengard is a town in name only. It began as a collection of work camps, which after awhile attracted entrepreneurs who looked to turn a profit providing much needed services. Hundreds of leagues away from civilization, Stengard is largely self-sufficient. Though trade caravans regularly depart to send raw materials back into the world, very little is imported into the region aside from basic staples, as the cost of shipping goods such a distance is prohibitive.
A number of well-established operations have regional headquarters in Stengard, including Rosamund’s Timber Exports, as well as the rival mining outfits, Orizon Ore and Bantheld & Sons. A number of much smaller companies ply their trade in the wilds, such as Portross Exotic Furs, and Fabian’s Artifacts & Relics. The Edge of the World Inn is the main gathering place in town, boasting a massive dining hall and bar, as well as ample lodging with stables. Tordarg’s Ironworks is the only smithy in town, and together with Batilda’s Dry Goods, keep Stengard’s denizens outfitted with tools, arms, and supplies.
There is no preeminent authority in Stengard. The larger companies have their own hired guards who protect their individual business interests, and the remainder of the residents are the rough-and-tumble frontier sort, fully capable of handling themselves. There is a very lose sense of community. While everyone is united in the fact they’re dependent on one another for continued existence, there is no denying nearly every soul in Stengard arrived to further their own ambitions.
